    Growing up in Victoria I have seen a lot of mountains and plenty of thick country over the years. I have been hunting and shooting in the hills since I could walk. Even though I loved shooting, I got into hunting with dogs about six years ago, and now I wouldn’t do it any other way. But over time things change, I decided to make the big move to North Qld, that was four years ago now. I moved to Tully, and this area has everything far north Qld is all about, Fishing, Hunting and big boars.

    The country is mainly sugar cane and banana crops backed by jungle and mountain country. Sometimes hunting here can be a challenge, the boars know the country well, and they are fast at getting away from the dogs and back into the thick country. We have a mix of holders mostly Pitty & Arab crosses.

    Our dogs have to be handy, and it can be hard to get a good cane dog that can get the job done. We never see any pigs out in the open most of the time they head out of the cane and into the mountains as soon as they hear us. I would have to say this is some of the hardest and thickest country I’ve ever hunted. Unfortunately, sometimes we do miss a lot of pigs because of this, but when we get one, it’s usually a good size and well worth it. It definitely has many challenges, but the reward at the end is what it is all about and always makes it worth it.
