WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE MIX
The things I like the most about this mix is lightning speed, hardness, good scenting ability, and high drive. Her best trait for me was the speed , seemed like she could hit max speed as soon as her feet hit the deck and could turn on a dime at full pelt. I originally got her, so my main fella had a bit of back up, but once she knew the ropes, she’d take off in the opposite direction from my main dog and catch her own so kind of defeated the purpose, another good one out dog.
TRAINING & WORKING,WORKING WITH OTHER DOGS
Training her was pretty easy to, she was naturally a bit of a timid dog so responded well to simple corrections if she was doing the wrong thing and never once did I have to be heavy-handed or really even raise my voice with her. I started working her at around eight months old with my main fella, she picked it up straight away and within no time was off catching her own off the ute. Extremely hard hitter, lugged on the ear but she started to hold tucked away under the front arm pit, with another dog on the head it was a really good hold. She would’ve come good from it with a bit more one out work again to get her back on the ear but I, unfortunately, lost her in a accident, she shattered her back leg and had to be put to sleep. She always worked well with all other dogs but always happy to work by herself as well.
SCENTING ABILITY
She had a really good nose on her, started to whinge from the crate at speed but that’s the only time you would hear a noise out of her. Good Ute and ground finder and just a good all-round handy dog, average find for her was around 200 to 400 meters but would push out if she had to. She didn’t have very good endurance though and did overheat a bit so had to really watch working her in the heat and if the dogs split up and caught their own I always had to go to her first just in case. Best find by herself was in the Hills at Bocoble NSW and was 1.5 kilometers; she was a much-loved family pet as well as a ball tearing boar catcher. She was a very loving natured girl, the most loyal dog you could find too, and she is extremely missed.
