Overview

My two good mates Mckenzie and Clayton O’Brien and I planned a hunt to walk up into the untouched backcountry. We decided only to take the two main bitches, and we set off on our walk. About 1 hour into the hunt we come across some sign of a boar around the 65kg mark. The girls were a little keen, but it was nothing too exciting, so we kept on keeping on. About 30 minutes later, one of the dogs started to track off and pushed out to about 400 meters. We waited and listened as she continued to track, and she pushed out to about 600 meters. They were working slowly then we heard her barking, she was on. We took off in her direction.

While running, I could still hear the barks thinking to myself, this dog is more than capable of lugging a pig around the 60 to 70kg mark. I thought it must have been a decent boar for her to be bailing. After the 600 meter run, we finally got there. The other boys got there just before me I could hear them yelling it’s a cracker, it’s a tonner. We got in and dispatched him, the dogs done well the pull this big fella up. After dispatching him and there were some cheers and hi-fives all around. We pulled the big fella up on the scales, and he weighed in at 110kg. Not a bad boar at all.
