Odis is from the original line from the James brothers – Hit and split boys. Odis has always been a very keen, smart and loyal dog. He was a very quiet pup but opened up at around 7 months old after about 10 to 15 pigs and hasn’t looked back since. At around 9 months old he was finding off the ground when the main dogs jumped and would usually come up with the find so I knew he was using his nose. Unfortunately, I had to put my main finder down due to cancer, this is when Odis stepped it up and started finding solo. He will usually trail bark if he's up a pig, I don’t mind trail barking sometimes if I hear it I know he's on every time. If the pigs on the move and making a run for it he will hit their back end hard to pull them up then grabs hold of an ear and tucks in nice and tight.
If it’s a head-on scenario no bark he will just hit and hold. Odis is an all-round good dog, consistent and reliable and I know I may be biased but I can't think of any bad habits either, he's just an all-round good dog. Over time you get know your dogs and how they hunt, I've come to know Odis and his hunting techniques. He's nose is wicked, as soon as he wags his tail you know its fresh scent and he will go and get a pig. If there is no tail wag it is most likely older scent. He's always been great around the house and around kids. He doesn’t have any fight in him and is good with other dogs as well, but he does make a great guard dog, he doesn’t miss much.
