It was a Friday afternoon, a longtime hunting mate & I were gearing up for a big weekend on the pigs. He bought his young hairy dog Jinx for a run. I was bringing my whole pack. Rocky, Willow, and Tipsy. With a mix of bailers and holders, we were set to get a cracking boar. The afternoon was starting to cool down early. So, on the way out I decided to check a block no more than 5 minutes from my driveway before we left. We thought why not, with the bailers on the back we started around the block. After half an hour the bailers flew off the ute, the two young bailers hit up and we could hear tree crashing and a lot of commotion.
We knew it must be big so we let the holders out. They flew in but then everything went silent. The GPS came up treed. It was on, they were 400 meters out. We made the run in and when we got there it was a big boar. The dogs had it all under control and we got in, dispatching him. We dragged him out and chucked him on the back. We wanted to weigh him at home. Once we got back we hung him up, he comes in at 117kg. Nothing better than a quick run and a good boar. We decided that will do us for the weekend and went to the pub instead. Sometimes it’s worth checking the old spots even when it’s quiet for a while. You never know what might have come in.
